Create Comfort. Offer a throw blanket (or two) at the end of each bed to prevent your guests from having to search for more covers in the middle of the night. I also like to offer extra pillows for reading in bed, or to provide an option between foam and down.
Add a Colorful Touch. Keep little vases on hand for fresh flowers to place in the Guest bedroom or bathroom.
Help Them Feel at Home. Give your Guests a tour of the kitchen and coffee area in the evening so that early risers can prepare, or grab, their coffee without having to wait for you to wake up in the morning.
Collect Mini-Toiletries. There’s no need to share your pricey salon shampoo, next time you’re staying at a hotel remember to grab the small toiletry bottles. Or stock up on travel size toiletries on your next trip to Wal-Mart or Target.
Clear some Closet Space. Some guests will live out of their suitcase during their stay, but others will prefer to hang up their clothes. Also, by providing them with a place to unpack means they’ll be less likely to drape clothes all over the spare bedroom or living room.
On the other side of things, here are a couple of tips to ensure you’ll be invited back as a Guest:
A small gift, like a bottle of wine, or a thank you card is always a nice gesture.
Everyone appreciates a guest that chips in, offer to help with the cooking, or making those quick jets to the store for forgotten ingredients.
Remember to entertain yourself, your host will appreciate having some down time, bring a book or magazine and retire to a shady spot in the backyard for a quiet afternoon.
At the end of the stay, strip your own sheets and offer to the put them in the wash. This is one of my favorite things to do to help a host get their house back in order after my stay.
